Our Two Models of Rubber Extrusion Winders
At Gemini Industrial, we design and build custom automation machinery to address our customers’ unique bottlenecks and manufacturing challenges. Every solution is tailored to your specific needs and production environment. Even within our established machine types, like rubber extrusion winders, different options can align with different customer goals.
Learn more about our two rubber extrusion winders: the large version and the portable version.
Comparing the Two Options
A rubber extrusion winder helps customers easily coil lengths of extruded rubber for storage, transport, or further processing. With our two winders, each custom machine offers advantages for distinct use cases, designed to solve different manufacturing pain points.
Large extrusion winder: The large spools are intended to help put rubber through a post process.
Portable winder: Spools rubber onto final packaging for shipping right off the extrusion line.
Both machines share many of the same features, including advanced controls and safety systems, but their designs reflect different applications and priorities.
The large-scale winder is ideal for high-capacity applications where a large spool is the best solution. It is installed permanently onto a production line, and winds onto a large steel spool. The spool itself is portable and can be used to move the product to further processes. The winder provides precise layering, and typically winds two strips at a time (although it can be customized for more).
The portable winder, by contrast, offers flexibility and scalability in getting output ready for final packaging. The machine can be easily moved line to line, and it coils product onto a cardboard spool for final packaging. Each side of the machine holds two or more spools, and as one side fills, the operator can switch to the idle spindle without ever stopping production.
The Benefits of Portable Rubber Extrusion Winders
Our portable winders offer clear benefits:
Easy portability: With a portable machine option, the customer can mix and match winding operations to the line output. For example, a 4-cavity winder can be paired with a 2-cavity unit on the same line, resulting in 50% more output. This customer chose a mix of 6-, 4-, and 2-cavity portable machines to give themselves flexibility in production options.
Increased productivity: The portable winders allow multiple cavities or spools to run at once. Customers can adapt winding operations based on their line capacity and tooling, and could run as many as 6 strips per line.
Greater part variability: Parameters for different part shapes and sizes can be changed, and customers can even adjust how precisely the extrusion is wrapped on the spool.
Improved controls: Gemini’s portable winders give you greater control over the process, allowing you to adjust speed, available servo positioning for precision layering, and multiple loop control options to match line speed.
Enhanced safety: The portable winders feature improved physical barriers, light curtains, safety relays, and overall protection, helping operators work efficiently and securely.
Simple operation: The machines are designed to be straightforward for any operator. They’re easy to train employees on, simple to operate, and operators can oversee winding while also handling other responsibilities on the line.
